Las Vegas was such a cool place in the early 70's..
We were the exception to the rule..
in that we got work only a short time after we arrived..
We started at "The Silver Slipper" in North Las Vegas...tuning up for a date at the International which was at the time the largest resort hotel in the world..
Barry and Yoscha Finch made some stunning outfits for our opening
and the band had returned from home to join us...
Elvis was in the main showroom and we shared the bill in the lounge
with Ike and Tina Turner and Redd Foxx...
The Sweet Inspirations who would also join Elvis for his shows appeared too...
Momma and Daddy came to see us all the way from Pineville,La.
and were thrilled by it all...
I remember them meeting Cissy Houston of The Sweet Inspirations...Cissy was a sweetheart to us and even brought Whitney in to one of our rehearsals...
Redd Foxx and Bobby Vinton would headline the show later on...
Redd loved our music...
OH...I've got to tell you how I met Elvis Presley...
One night after our first show...I got a call from the CEO of the hotel Mr.Shoofey who offered us a multi-year contract worth well over a million bucks...
I was so excited..
I flew down the stairs heading to the restaurant to tell everybody...
When I through open the door to the hall I ran right into a security guard
and knocked him and a couple others down...
It kind of dazed me and when I looked up I saw 4 security guys
and 2 guys with those Planet Of The Apes masks on...
One of the guards grabbed me and held me...
I told him," I'm sorry I didn't see ya'll"..
when one of the guys(apes)took off his mask...
It was Elvis!!..He was laughing like crazy...He told the guards...
"It's OK..If he said ya'll..he must be from my neck of the woods"...
He invited me to see him in his dressing room before his show...
I think maybe Cissy might have told him about us because..I heard later thru the grapevine that he sneaked into the sound booth and caught our show...
What a night!!..
A million dollar contract and meeting Elvis...WOW!!!...
Anyway..this CD is from a live performance from my Vegas Years...
I hope you enjoy the show....
